If adversity forges character, Riverdale Boys Lacrosse has more character than just about any lacrosse program anywhere. Prior to the 2016 season, the team had not won a game in 4 years and their losses were by a lot. In 2016 they won 1 game, and lost 2 by only 1 goal. The 2017 season was a turnaround. The team won ten games, tied one, and lost only six. “We surprised a lot of people, ” says head coach Richard Williamson, who came to Riverdale from the Estero Wildcats after their 14-3 2015 season. “The team always had the drive and heart to win games, but it lacked the basic training and strategies to get the job done.” With the overall level of lacrosse skills and IQ much improved over past seasons, it’s now on the boys to hone their game into the kind of lacrosse that will get them into the playoffs and beyond!
